It is important for you to follow these guidelines below before surgery to prevent delay or cancellations.
To expedite your check-in process, we need to complete your health history prior to your procedure date. For your convenience you can complete your health history assessment via One Medical Passport. If you do not have access to complete this ,the pre-registration team will contact you prior to your procedure.
Arrival Time Notification
Arrival times will be sent out the DAY PRIOR TO SURGERY starting at 1:00 pm. If you have opted in to receive communication via text message and email, this is how you will receive your arrival time and pre-operative instructions. Otherwise, you will receive a phone call from our team with this information. If you have not heard from our office by 2:00 pm, please give us a call at 919-781-4311 (option 1). If your surgery is scheduled on a Monday, we will reach out with your arrival time the Friday before. If the surgery center is closed for a holiday, we will call with your arrival time the business day prior.
Food and Drink
The night before your surgery you may eat a light meal before 12:00 am. You may brush your teeth the morning of surgery, remembering not to swallow anything.
- Adults & Children
Clear liquids may be ingested up to TWO (2) HOURS prior to your ARRIVAL TIME for the procedure. Clear liquids include water, juice (no pulp), carbonated beverages, sports drinks, clear tea and black coffee (with no sugar, no creamer, and artificial sweeteners). Broth is NOT allowed. - Infants
Breast milk may be given up to FOUR (4) HOURS prior to your ARRIVAL TIME. Infant formula may be given up to SIX (6) HOURS prior to your ARRIVAL TIME.
Alcohol
Do not drink alcohol for at least 12 hours before your arrival.
Smoking/Tobacco
No smoking/tobacco after midnight the night before your surgery.
Makeup, Nail Polish, Jewelry (including body jewelry)
Please remove all these items before surgery.
Clothing
Wear loose, casual, comfortable clothing to fit over dressings.
Valuables
Please leave valuables at home.
Notify The Center & Your Surgeon If:
- You have an elevated temperature, cough, cold, vomiting or diarrhea between your last visit to the surgeon and the day of your surgery.
- You suspect you may be pregnant.
- You are taking: diet pills, aspirin, ibuprofen, blood thinners, or certain herbal medicines. You may need to stop taking these 1-2 weeks before your surgery. You can discuss this with your surgeon.
What You Need The Day Of The Surgery:
- Information To Bring: Insurance cards, photo ID, Medicare or Medical Assistance information, numbers and addresses.
- Driver: You must plan to have someone drive you home. Do not plan to use taxis or other public transportation.
- Escort: A friend, relative or dedicated caregiver MUST stay with you for 24 hours.
- Legal Guardian: A legal guardian must be in the center AT ALL TIMES for children and dependent adults.
- Care For Children: If you have young children at home for whom you normally care for, plan for someone else to care for them for at least the first 24 hours following your surgery.
- Interpreter: If the patient cannot read, speak English or use sign language, an interpreter is required. If you need assistance arranging for an interpreter, please contact the center as soon as possible.
